|

Hi,
Does anyone know if late July (say 22-31) is a good period to visit the Tokyo Disneyland?
I would like to take my 2 kids there (age 2.5 and 6 years) but was told that July is summer and will feel very hot even though the temperature is around 25-27degC.
and where is the nearest accomodation to Disneyland? We are looking for an economical place (if any) for 3 adults and 2 kids.

Hello Irene and welcome to the forum.
At that time in July it is not so much hot as very humid.
Tokyo Disneyland is in Chiba which is about an hour out of central Tokyo. You can see a list of discounted hotels in Chiba here:
http://www.japaneselifestyle.com.au/city_suburb.php?city_eng_text=Tokyo&suburbid=37
These are probably your best options for staying close to Disneyland. Alternatively you could stay somewhere along the trainline between Tokyo Disneyland and central Tokyo. _________________ Craig Fryer

also be aware that since it's summer, it might be school holidays? and it could be packed with young japanese teens.
I went in march a couple of yrs ago, on a weekday, thought it would be fairly quiet, but turns out it was a public holiday and the place was packed! had to wait on a average of 45mins+ per ride. what we found out later, which was too late for us, but may be benificial to you is there is an "express pass" where you get a ticket for a ride, then go off and do something else come back and you get straight in without having to wait in the long queue. |

I went early December (the Christmas decorations were beautiful) a couple of years ago. Even in the cold winds at 7am, there were queues easily 80m long to get in. The 'fast pass' is definitely something worth doing. The Winnie the Pooh ride would be great for your kids, and is always popular. I'd suggest getting a fast pass for that first, then planning the next couple of rides.
See, once you have the fast pass, you can jump into the shorter queue (usually around 5-10 minutes wait, opposed to the 30-45+ minutes on other popular rides) and get in without any fuss. Important to remember though, is that you can only activate 1 fast pass at a time, and you can't use it til I think 30 minutes later. That stops people from just getting a pass for everything, and hogging the best rides all day
It's a good system. So if there's something you really wanna go on, get a pass for it. I think you use your entry pass at a machine, which gives you an access ticket.
When I went there, we stayed at Odaiba, which was a bus ride away. This was a booked bus though, so you'll probably want to arrange something like that which will get you to a hotel. With the frantic gift shopping at the end, I was exhausted, so a direct bus back was just what I needed. Odaiba was a nice place to stay though, and there are some nice tourist places to see (you can check some of that info out on the site here )
Just be aware, as Japanese said, that it will probably be very humid that time of year. _________________

Great Thanks to Craig Fryer, CityEnd, and Dtownley for all your tips.
Someone once told me that a day in Tokyo Disneyland is hardly enough.
Is this true even with the "Fast Pass"? Any other "strategies"? This holiday is mainly for the kids and so we hope they would retain the fond memories of the trip.

Here are the holiday dates for Japan:
For working people
• New year: 29 Dec - 3 Jan
• Golden week: 29 Apr - 5 May
• Obon: A week around 15 Aug
School Holidays
• Spring: 24 Mar - 7 Apr
• Summer: 24 Jul - 31 Aug
• Winter: 24 Dec - 7 Jan
Thus Irene the news is not good for the holidays. You will be there during the school holidays with the 22nd & 23rd being Saturday and Sunday.
I am told that it would take three days to do all the rides at the Tokyo Disneyland. Now even if you don't want to go on all the rides, I would think given it is school holidays that two days would be required to cover the best parts. I don't think your children would complain that they spend too long at Disneyland if you spent two days there. (Although they may complain about the queues)
I will make a couple of suggestions particularly for the 2.5 year old. I went to Disneyland when I was 18 months old and I don't remember anything. It is unlikely that your 2.5 year old will remember anything either, so make sure you take some good pictures of your children enjoying themselves at Disneyland. Today with photography being so much cheaper this is more a thing to just remember to do, rather than the high cost it was 35 years ago. Also buy your children two identical T-shirts each. Let them wear one while they are little and store the other one away carefully. It will mean much more to them when they are grown up, while the other one will be very worn out. _________________ Craig Fryer

it's also best to keep in mind that a couple of the rides are rather fast, and may not be appropriate for children under 4 or 5. There are still plenty of rides that your children would enjoy, especially the Pooh and Buzz Lightyear ones
I also just remembered that there's Tokyo Disney Sea, which is located fairly close to Disneyland (I remember seeing it clearly from the top of one of the rollercoasters). I'm sure that would be great to see around summer. I didn't get to see it though, as it wasn't in our tour, and was winter.
So it may be worth looking into Disney Sea as well, especially considering the season.
I would say that taking 2 days to see Disneyland would be best, as you can take things a little slower and really enjoy yourself. And since children wouldn't have the stamina of an adult, you can be sure that that way they can have a great time and experience the rides they like. _________________

| Tokyo Disney Land was damn fun. i went there late last year. The place is pretty overwhelming and the rides get VERY PACKED. All the rides there offer this "fast pass" where you can skip the lines but i think there's a limit to how many times you can use them. I don't think going at a specific time of year really matters as the place is always filled with people. |

I don't recall there being a limited number of uses. I used it all day, from around 7:30am til 5 or 6pm (it was dark when I finished on the rides). The only limitation, is that you can only hold 1 fast pass at a time, and not stock them up. If you try to get a new one while possessing one already, it may either reject your card, or cancel the current one. _________________

The last day of school is the 21st of July.
It can be in the mid 30s with high humidity at that time of the year.
Even now it's hot and humid. Today for example it's 29c and very very humid,I'm dripping to sweat as I write this. I'm about an hours drive from Disneyland where I am at the moment
Tokyo disneyland is crowded no matter when you go there.Be preparded for long waits and don't expect to be able to ride everything in just one day.
They have built another theme park next to Disneyland called Tokyo disneysea that is gearded more towards adults. There are numerous hotels right next to Disneyland so you could stay one night and make a two day event of it. |

They apparently have many Christmas events at Disneyland during this time, so from that point of view it may make up for the cold weather. It is possible it may snow, so you will need warm clothes. _________________ Craig Fryer

The number of rides you can go on will depend on how long the queues are for each ride. This will be determined by the time of day, the day of the week, weather and if there are any holidays on those days. I don't think you could get around all the rides in that time. I believe it is fairly difficult to do on a normal whole day.
It looks like "Starlight Passports can be used for Park admission from 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays only."
I have not heard of the "Fast Pass". Refer to http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/tdr/english/plan/ticket/index.html _________________ Craig Fryer
