Mizu Japanese Restaurant Prahran Mizu has a pleasant atmosphere and the new restaurant has an appealing modern décor.
Mizu has a fairly extensive range on their menu including soups, sushi, tempura, noodles, seafood plus beef and chicken main courses.
What we ate: Entrée
Calamari Crumbed and fried calamari, served with a Japanese dipping sauce.
Grilled ox tongue with lemon.
Main Course
California Roll filled with Atlantic Salmon, prawn, tuna, avocado and cucumber then rolled with seaweed and flying fish roe.
Sushi Assorted seafood on vinegared rice pieces.
The serves for both the main course and the entrée were very generous and represented very good value. If any thing there was probably too much calamari and I felt I had over eaten half way through the main course. The California rolls, while large, where really very good with the rice of the right texture and taste. The rice is where so many restaurants fail with their sushi or California rolls. This may be in attempt to cater for the Australian palate or simply they don’t know better. The sushi was fresh and very good quality.
Mizu’s service was prompt and polite.
My biggest criticism of Mizu is by way of their marketing. Mizu has recently relocated to Greville Street in Prahran right near the train station. Their telephone number has also changed, but their business cards in the restaurant and their web site have not or are not completely updated with the new address and phone number. Also the pricing on their web site seems to be out of date. While these may seem small issues, they did lead to us not finding the restaurant the first time we attempted to visit, as the address we referred to was the old address. I wonder how many other people have suffered this inconvenience.
