Kazen Japanese Cafe Fitzroy Kazen is crossover style restaurant mixing Japanese and Italian. This unusual mix comes about from a Japanese chef who worked in Italian restaurants in Japan.
Kazen Looks like a typical Western cafe restaurant with no Japanese artwork or picture on the walls.
What we ate.
Yakitori chicken, tofu salad with seame dressing, avacardo, seaweed, mixed green continental lettuce and rice. The chicken was a bit burnt, but this is not unusual for yakatori, otherwise it was good. The salad was fresh.
Eel donburi served on a bed of rice. The serving was a little on the small size, but flavour was very good.
California rolls with avacardo, carrot, crab base mayaonase. These were fresh, but with too much maya, not enough filling and the rice was just a little too soft.
Opening Hours: Lunch; Dinner Tuesday to Sunday 6pm - 10:30pm
