Ocha Kew This restaurant was highly recommended to me by a Japanese friend, so may be my expectations were too high.
If you are hoping to dine at Ocha on a Saturday night then you had better book ahead and don't expect to have a table for the evening. Ocha is a very small restaurant and this is the major issue I have with it. What do I mean by small? The person on the table next to me was closer than my dinner partner! I spent the whole evening trying really hard not to join in the conversation on the table next to me.
What about the food? The tempura was good, but not the best I have had. Again it was too oily. The Udon noodles were some of the better ones in Melbourne. Generally then I would say the food was authentic and of a good standard. It is sad to say that again the waitresses were not Japanese.
Normally when someone says a restaurant in Kew I would expect it to be near Kew Junction or along High Street, but Ocha is located in a smaller shopping strip. This means parking is easy, but not outside the restaurant.
Opening Hours: Tues to Fri - noon to 2:30pm Tues to Sat 6 - 10:30pm
