is the venue for the Tokyo Motor
Show.
Makuhari Messe (幕張メッセ, Makuhari Messe) is a convention
center in Japan located in the western region of Chiba Prefecture, close to
Tokyo. It is located in Mihama-ku, Chiba
city. Designed by Fumihiko Maki, it is more or less accessible by Tokyo's
commuter rail system. Its name derives from Makuhari, the region's name,
followed by the German word Messe, which means "trade fair."
The convention center was completed and opened in the late
1980s. It is hospitable to high tech events.
Makuhari Messe is conveniently close to Tokyo
Disney Resort in Urayasu and to the black sand beaches in Pacific Chiba
Prefecture. It is easily accessible from the Japan Railways Keiyo Line at
the JR Kaihin-Makuhari station. The convention center is the traditional
host of the Tokyo Auto Salon (annual modified car show in January), the
Tokyo Motor Show (a bi-annual motor show
in October), Tokyo Game Show (annual video game hardware and software
exhibition held in September) and the Jump Festa (annual manga, anime, and
video game exposition in December). The venue was noted in 2005 for hosting
the Tokyo and the first round of the Live8 concert. Event specific

On July 1, 2005, the company that owns the convention center changed its
name from "Nippon Convention Center" to "Makuhari Messe."
