KAMAKURA TRANSPORT

Kamakura Tours - Kamakura Guide - Kamakura is famous for its many temples, shrines and the statue of the Great Buddha.

Kamakura The fastest way in is by JR Yokosuka Line from Tokyo Station (one hour, ¥890) and Yokohama (25 minutes, ¥330). The JR Kamakura-Enoshima Free Kippu (¥1,110 from Yokohama, ¥1,970 from Tokyo) gets you a round trip from Tokyo to Kamakura (local trains only) plus unlimited use of Enoden and Shonan Monorail lines.

From Shinjuku Station take the Shonan-Shinjuku line to Ofuna Station, change to the Yokosuka line to Kamakura Station, change to Enoshima Dentetsu line to Hase Station. This trip takes about 77 minutes and one way is 1080 Yen. From the Hase Station it is about a 500m walk to Kotokuin Temple. Half way along the  path to Kotokuin Temple, on the left hand side is Kaikozan Hase-dera
(also known as the Hase Kannon Temple). You should visit this on either the way to or from Kotokuin Temple. Then return to Hase Station and catch the train back to Kamakura Station. From there head to the western side of the Station, pass the bus station, to the Komachi Shopping Street. Here you can either stop for lunch or head along the street heading north west to the entrance of the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.

A cheaper alternative is to take the private Odakyu line from Shinjuku Station to Fujisawa, then change onto the rattling old Enoden (江ノ電) half-train/half-streetcar line that terminates in Kamakura. The longer (about 90-minute) travel time is compensated for by views of Enoshima island and the Shonan coast. The Enoshima-Kamakura Free Pass (¥1,430) will get you a roundtrip from Shinjuku Station and unlimited use of the Enoden line for one day.
