RINNOJI TEMPLE

Rinnoji Temple - Rinnoji Temple is located in Nikko. Rinnoji Temple is famous for its gold-leafed statues of Amida and Kannon.

Rinnoji Temple, originally called Nikko-san, was established by Buddhist monk Shodo in 766. Due to its isolated location (deep in the mountain) away from Tokyo at Nikko, Nikko-san soon attracted other Buddhist monks in search of solitude. In 15th century, there were over 500 buildings in the site. Now there are only 15 buildings in the site.
